About buzz: My name is BUZZ and I'm approximately 1 years old male chihuahua sh. I have been at the Castaic Animal Care Center since April 4, 2025. Handling: He was sitting on his bed with soft body language. The handler knelt at the kennel gate and began to verbally coax him. He immediately lunged off his bed growling and snapped at the kennel gate. He then stood at the kennel gate growling and showing teeth. When the handler opened the kennel gate, he retreated to the back of the kennel with concerned eyes and whine growling. The handler took one step into the kennel and he immediately rushed forward toward the handler?s leg. The handler stepped back out of the kennel. The handler placed on a protective glove as a precaution. The handler opened the kennel gate and he retreated to the back again. The handler sat on the kennel lip and began to verbally reassure him. He immediately rushed to the front of the kennel and bit the protective glove multiple times and growling. The handler didn?t react and he laid down on his bed near the front of the kennel. The handler pet his head and bit the glove one more time. He remained laying down and stopped biting. He appeared to start to desensitize to being touched and allowed the handler to pet his head and side of his face. His eyes began to soften and he leaned his head into the petting, appearing to now be enjoying it. The handler then moved their hand and he quickly lunged and bit their hand multiple times. No injuries were caused due to the protective glove. The assessment was ended at this point. Due to his handling sensitivity and offensive behavior displayed, he will be designated as rescue only.
