About paris: My name is PARIS and I'm approximately 2 years and 1 months old female terrier. I have been at the Downey Animal Care Center since February 8, 2025.
Paris is a sweet but shy dog who is currently available for adoption. She?s a gentle soul who can be a bit nervous in new situations, often displaying a tense, trembling demeanor when first approached. When introduced to the play yard, Paris preferred to keep to herself, initially avoiding other dogs and seeking out quiet, shaded spots to relax. Over time, she began to warm up, exploring the yard and greeting other dogs in a calm manner. Paris is not yet leash trained and may struggle with being guided on a leash, occasionally flailing or chewing on it when under pressure. Despite her initial apprehension, she is patient and tolerant, allowing handlers to examine her and offering minimal resistance. Paris would thrive in a home with an experienced, patient owner who can provide her with continued socialization, confidence-building, and leash training. She does best in a calm, low-energy environment with other dogs that are gentle and non-pushy. Paris is looking for a home with adults who can offer her the time and space she needs to feel secure and loved.

NEW ASSESSMENT
DOWNEY

Paris was sitting on her bed with a tense trembling demeanor as the runner approached. Paris was shifted to the outside of
the kennel run where it was quieter. Paris was sitting at the rear of the kennel with tense hunched body, closed mouth, ears
back, tucked tail, and wide soft eyes. The runner partially stepped into the kennel and was able to place the leash loop onto
Paris. She appears to not be leashed trained and began to flail, pull away, gnaw on the leash, and alligator roll. Paris was
guided into a roll cart and was taken to the play yard. Once in the catch pen Paris was collared and leashed using a slow
approach. Paris was guided into the play yard with calm gentle dainty dogs. Paris bypassed the dogs that came to greet her
and moved to the rear of the play yard. She found a shaded area under a tree and laid down. Some of the dogs approached
her and she tolerated them sniffing her. With some of the pushier dogs Paris would just get up and move away. She primarily
kept to herself avoiding the playful dogs and she would try to find isolated areas. After some time, Paris appeared to have
acclimated to the yard, and she began to explore and exchange greetings nicely. Her demeanor appeared more at ease with a
relaxed body, open mouth pant, and a relaxed tail wag. Paris was able to co-exist in the play yard with calm dogs primarily
keeping to herself with no play style. Paris would benefit from continued socialization, confidence building, and on leash
training. See additional assessment for placement recommendations.

HANDLING ASSESSMENT
DOWNEY
A5549857
Paris was in the play yard prior to the assessment and was given time to decompress. Paris displayed a tense body with her
hind legs trembling, mouth closed, ears back, a low tail, and wide soft eyes. The handler lowered their body and called to
Paris. It took time for Paris to approach the handler and sniffed them from a distance. When the handler reached out to pet
her Paris scurried away. The handler held onto her leash using minimal pressure as Paris appears to not be leash trained. She
began to pull away and flail briefly, but she then settled with calm verbal coaxing. The handler gave Paris time to acclimate
to their presence before being able to pet her. The handler was able to examine Paris? ears, mouth, and front paws. The
handler proceeded to palpate Paris? abdomen, back, hind legs, and tail. She sat when her hind legs were palpated and
appeared uncomfortable but tolerated the exam. Paris was able to be walked back to her kennel on leash, but she required a
lot of coaxing, guidance, light to no leash pressure, and calm verbal corrections when she began to chew on the leash. Paris
would benefit from going to a home with an experienced pet owner, continued socialization and on leash training. Paris is ok
for public adoption low energy level adults only required calm dogs required.
