Intake Date: 01/11- Owner surrender - due to behavior towards younger child in the home.
Missy is a loving, 1-year-old dog who came to us as a surrender after it became clear that she wasn't getting along with the younger children in her previous home. While Missy is a friendly and affectionate dog, she would thrive best in a calm, adult-only home where she can receive the attention and respect she deserves.
Volunteer Notes 01/12/25:
Missy was quiet in her kennel and at the front when I approached. She was shy about getting the leash on but had no issues walking through the shelter hallways. Outside on the leash she walked straight ahead and pulled occasionally. Missy knows how to sit and she takes treats gently. She is very treat motivated, she loves them! She allows petting. While I was editing photos she came up to me to say hi but sometimes she ignored me when I called her. She wagged her tail a bit more towards the end of our visit when she was more relaxed. She was easy to return to her kennel. She had a friendly slightly independent demeanor.
Playgroup Notes

Shelter Observation
1/17/25 Visited twice today.
From morning visit: Opened the kennel door and she went to the back corner of the kennel. When I tried to leash her she ducked her head and avoided the leash. Due to avoidant behavior, did not want to over stress by leashing her. When I exited the kennel she came to the front but when I tried opening it again she retreated to the back of the kennel.
From evening visit: Retreated to back of kennel again wen I entered kennel. Was head shy but allowed slow placement of slip leash. Once leash was on she began to walk at a steady pace. Once outside Missy pottied and explored the yard. Missy was not interested in getting any pets or attention and waited at door to go back inside after a brief moment. Easy to return to kennel, gentle taking treats
