About yonker: Yonker ACCT-A-179074 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Yonker must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by MONDAY, OCTOBER 28TH at 10AM. Should Yonker's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Yonker is an approximately 5-year-old male who came in as a police intake after being found as a stray. He has been very friendly while in our care, even during his medical exams. During his behavior evaluation, he allowed all handling but did not solicit attention. This sweet pup is often in his own world and is just looking for a place to rest and receive the care he needs for his masses, limp, and dental issues. Yonker has had good dog meets while at the shelter. Due to his medical concerns, Yonker is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner.

BEHAVIOR:
10/27/24 volunteer notes NEW: I took Yonker out to get some promo since he is timestamped. He's a happy boy, easy to leash and walk. His notes state he has been limping, but he wasn't limping on our walk to the yard. However, he started limping as we were returning to the shelter, and it looks like it's his front leg that is causing it.
He has an adorable short snouty face, is a beautiful color of steel gray, and just so darn cute. He took advantage of climbing in my lap, when he could and allowed pretty much all over handling. A couple of times in his excitement he tried to jumped up, but he doesn't get any height.
He was well mannered thru the fence with dogs he met. He took treats nicely, but didn't seem to know the sit cue. He is missing some front bottom teeth and others don't look great, so maybe he is older than 5.
He has 2 apparent growths, one on the front right paw and the very visible one on his back left flank.
I was told he's not on meds, which surprised me because he had no problem getting up on the bench or into his kennel. Previous notes said getting into the kennel was difficult for him. I had no issue removing the leash from him.
10/24 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Police pickup
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Yonker was laying on his bed and when called over he stood up slowly and came to the front with soft eyes and mid level wags. He was very patient for leashing and came right out
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING:
In the yard, Yonker sniffed around the yard and did not pay any attention to the handlers. He allowed all handling but remained in his own world. He did some wags but never fully solicited for pets or attention. He needed you to be in his face for him to recognize someone was there. He did not take any treats and showed no interest in anything but good sniffs.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
Interest but no possession
Per staff 10/24: Officer brought in dog that was RAL. Dog is very social and allows handling and petting.
MEDICAL:
Per vet exam 10/24: Skin masses -- r/o mast cell tumors vs. other malignant vs. benign growths -- mass on right forelimb poses surgical challenge for removal due to location on the paw; mass on left thigh poses prognostic risk of being higher grade due to size. Left stifle lameness r/o CCL tear +/ meniscal damage with chronic instability causing bony expansion and joint thickening. Gingival mass and worn dentition. Patient will benefit from removal and/or biopsy evaluation of masses and radiographs/treatment for left hindlimb lameness.
During an exam on 10/24, staff noted that Yonker's eyes, ears, and nose were clean and clear, he had moderate staining on his teeth and some tartar on his canines. His coat was clean and he had a mass on hind left hind leg. He was bright, alert, and responsive, and very friendly.
