About star bright: Star Bright ACCT-A-171071 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Star Bright must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH at 10 A.M. Should Star Bright's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Star Bright is a gentle soul with soft, sad eyes who longs for a loving home. She might seem a bit shy at first, but the sweetness in her heart shines through. Star Bright arrived at ACCT on August 7th after police responded to a call about a dog running on a highway. They noted that she was skittish and scared. As Star Bright is adjusting, she seeks comfort and reassurance from staff and volunteer friends. Her affectionate nature is evident as she leans into pets and takes treats gently. She met another dog at the shelter and did well, so she is open to meeting with adopters' dogs. Since she is a bit nervous, any children in the home should be over the age of 12. She would benefit from a patient and understanding adopter who can help her feel secure. Due to her length of stay at the shelter, Star Bright is urgently looking for a rescue or foster to be the guiding light in her life and build up her confidence. Behavioral notes: 8/29/24 Per Staff: Very nice girl! 8/28/24 Per Staff: Very sweet 8/18/24 Per Staff: Low energy, sweet. 8/11/24 Per Volunteer: Needs more time to acclimate. 8/11/24 Per Staff: Low energy, wants love and attention, super sweet. 8/10/24 Per Day Trip: Star Bright was super lovely and sweet and seemed to love everybody and everything and especially loves to cuddle. I've included some notes from the day and some pictures! severe separation anxiety: would wine, cry, bark, howl if not being pet car rides especially seem to stress her out since she can't be pet at all times (she started to get used to it on our way back to the shelter and actually laid down and relaxed) super sweet and friendly and LOVES attention doesn't seem to like any toys took a little bit to want to eat any treats ate a some grass VERY talkative/ vocal It seems like she could potentially overcome her separation anxiety if she finds a stable home. She seems to attach to anyone and everyone out of fear that they will leave/ abandon her but towards the end of the day she was able to lay down without me needing to touch her for periods at a time. 8/8/24 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Star Bright is being housed in a crate currently due to space. She was nervous in kennel a dn was curled up in the back. She looked up with soft, sad eyes, and came to the front with a lowered body and flashed me a couple submissive smiles. She dodged the leash when I reached in, but I was able to lasso her easily, and she came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: In the room Star Bright was very whiny and stressed. She whined and howled sadly at the door and at me, unable to communicate her needs. She climbed into my lap, trembling and whining, and allowed all over handling. She was very affectionate and sweet, just so stressed and scared. She allowed all over handling right away with no issues, and seemed to seek comfort in her handler. She took treats genty and preferred meatier treats. SHe continued to cry and whine and howl, unable to tell me what she needed. Poor Star Bright needs someone who can learn her language and give her the support she needs! PLAY: Engaged in some play but it was short lived TOYS: Interest in squeaky toys but did not take possession MEDICAL: On 8/12, Star Bright was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (doggy cold) and tested positive for Pneumovirus. She started a course of doxycycline which she has completed. On 8/19 she was testing positive for Mycoplasma, Pneumovirus, and Herpesvirus Type 1. On 8/26, she was negative for Pneumovirus, but still testing positive for Mycoplasma and Herpesvirus Type 1. On 8/10, Star Bright was diagnosed with chronic otitis externa (outer ear infection) and chronic flea allergy dermatitis +/- underlying allergies. She was noted to have crusty debris and redness on her ears and patchy hair loss with crusting on her hind end. She was prescribed Clindamycin, Hydroxyzine, and Douxo mousse for her skin issues. Her eyes, mouth, heart, lungs, and lymph nodes were all normal. The vet noted that she was a "VERY sweet girl in good body condition. Potential adopters should be aware that her skin and ear issues may prove chronic or recurrent and likely indicate an underlying allergy. On 8/7, Star Bright was noted to have moderate dental tartar, dry scaly skin, hair loss on back end and along tail, and live fleas. Her eyes and nose had no issues. She was bright, alert, and responsive, friendly, and very vocal during her exam.
