About dashing: Dashing ACCT-A-160382 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Dashing must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Wednesday April 10th at 10 A.M. Should Dashing's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Dashing is an 8 year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly on 3/22 as a stray. It was quickly discovered that Dashing's teeth were previously worn/filed down and he will need more specialized dental care to fully assess his needs. He also came into the shelter fairly underweight. However, he has now begun declining and losing more weight while in the shelter, and it is felt that without interventional dental care, this will continue to be a problem for him, making him additionally vulnerable at his age to shelter acquired illnesses that are harder for senior dogs to recover from. Read what ACCT friends have to say about Dashing: 4/6 On 4/6 volunteer noted: Dashing is such a sweet boy, with such soulful eyes. He seems a bit nervous and unsure at first, but after tossing him some treats he came over to sniff me and I threw a few toys and balls for him to chase. When I was sitting he would come over to rub his body against my legs for pets. He seems like he wants love but needs some time to get comfortable enough to allow it. Just before heading back into the kennels he jumped up on the bench next to me and gave me a couple quick kisses. He can be grabby with treats so I tossed them for him at first and then gave him some with an open hand, though I would guess this grabbiness is related to how skinny he currently is. He also seemed housetrained and went to the bathroom as soon as we got outside. 4/4 Per Volunteer 4/2: Dashing is back in Site B, an area of the shelter for dogs with URIs, so he's seen people and dogs walk by him all day, so needless to say he was happy when I approached his kennel. According to his walk sheet he missed several days of being walked by a volunteer. He's got a great walking prance for an 8 year old dog. Unfortunately he is very skinny, but he's adorable. Also, he has some hair loss on his back and tail. Based on what I saw, he is trying to stay housetrained. He seems to know sit, though kind of does it at his own pace, but he is grabby taking the treats, so for now open palm or dropping them is better. He chased a ball I tossed, but lost interest quickly, and returned to me looking for treats. Can't blame him - he's a skinny boy. Once he's at his proper body weight and his fur is filled in, he'll be even more handsome. No issues returning him to his kennel. 3/25 Per Medical staff Dashing was friendly for his PCR and did not display any concerning behavior 3/23 Dash was nervous but seemed tolerant of handling. I lifted his upper lip to look at his teeth and, without warning, he lunged and snapped at me. Handler pulled him away before he was able to bite. It is possible that Dashing's teeth were intentionally filed down, and this may explain his negative response to handling around the mouth 3/23 I was told by medical staff that Dashing lunged for a staff member when they tried to check his mouth. 3/23 Dashing was curled up on his kennel bed and looked up with soft eyes and remained on his bed. He stood up to sniff the leash with soft eyes and a low tail, but when the door was opened he gave some low wags, and was leashed ears to chin in one go. Exited without issue.Dashing is such a gentle sweet senior. He sniffed around the eval room calmly with a neutral body and mid level wags, and used the bathroom. He approached both handlers, and gently leaned his head forward with soft eyes getting head pets. He gave mid level wags with handling, and enjoyed standing nearby getting attention. When the handler would stop, he'd continue wagging and come closer. He allowed handling of his paws, ears, and tail, despite his ears seeming a bit painful. He loves treats but understandably is pretty snatchy -he's a good catcher! Showed no signs of guarding. When medical staff evaluated Dashing he was found to be thin, with extensive dental disease and filled/worn down teeth. He also had some hair loss noted, although that was possible caused by malnourishment. He ears were bleeding from recently being cropped as well. On 3/23 it was determined that Dashing had acquired an upper respiratory infection, and he was treated with doxycycline.
