Does Iris smell sweet to you?! Iris is a 2-year-old female dog who was brought to ACCT Philly on 11/27/23 as a stray. She was described as being friendly and social with an energetic personality when she was initially brought in.
On 12/16 a volunteer noted- This was my first time meeting Iris and she was such a joy! She loved playing with rope toys and tennis balls, she would happily fetch and trade out for a new toy. She is very treat motivated and takes treats gently. She knows sit and paw and will also give you her other paw. She likes butt scratches and allows overall handling. She did pull on the leash, but being treat motivated and a smart pup, she will be walking by your side in no time! I think this girl has really opened up during her stay at the shelter and she is ready to show you her best self!
On 12/15 Iris attended playgroup and staff noted: Has a "rough and rowdy playstyle, wore a muzzle, but was steerable.. She was steerable, playful with the other dogs, and could be minorly assertive.
On12/3Staff noted: Playful girl! Had her out for the photoshoot. Easily leashed and walked through kennel. Outside she LOVED the play yard. She went back and forth over the A frame loving it. Sweet girl who allowed pets all over
On 11/28 a Volunteer stated:"Iris is pretty strong on the leash- she would be a good run club member! In the dog yard she jumped up on me a few times but I did not experience any humping. Mostly she was just excited and unsure - hello! - jump. She remained loose and wiggly the whole time outside but she's also a tad nervous of new noises and fast movements. She sits for treats and is gentle. She didn't have any interest in toys today and we did not encounter any dogs. She's medium energy and would do best in a home that can take things slow with her- I think she'll open up a lot when she feels safe."
On 11/28 Staff also noted that Iris appears to be housebroken.
When Medical Staff evaluated Iris, she was found to have pyoderma in some areas, and was treated with Benadryl and Cephalexin.
On 12/7 Medical staff also found that Iris had a "doggy cold or upper respiratory infection.

Due to Iris's playful energy level and leash manners, it is felt that Iris would do best in either an adult only home, or a home with older children. Iris is eager to find a forever home that will take her out to run off her energy, chase tennis balls and play! Come meet Iris today and don't forget to bring treats!
Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.
Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
