Meet Clydesdale. This handsome 3 yr old great dane mix found himself at ACCT after he was sadly tied up in our parking lot. Clydesdale was understandably scared when he was tied up barking at staff, but with some time he allowed us to leash him and safely untie him. Clydesdale remained stressed though pulling towards cars and the main road. SInce being in shelter Clydesdale has remained very stressed out and untrusting. He will allow some physical handling but will snap or growl at other times. Clydesdale has been extremely stressed being in the shelter environment. In kennel he is reactive growling, lunging and snapping at staff, but also will jump at the bars painting and scratching trying to get out. While outside with staff Clydesdale will frantically exit and owner search looking through windows and will scratch, ram, and bite at doors trying to break out. He could not find ways to self soothe his stress and would continue this behavior the entire time outside. Due to Clydesdale's extreme levels of stress he urgently needs to leave with a rescue partner who can assess his behavior further and provide him with a calming environment where he can decompress and hopefully be less stressed. Clydesdale would do well in an adult only home where he has lots of room to run and play!
9/19 per staff: Clydesdale has a cute snout and enjoys face pets. While he is very stressed he was a bit playful and with some time and decompression he will have the best personality.
9/18 per staff: Clyde was nervous tied up outside. He was growling and hard barking but responded well to baby talk. He allowed me to leash him and he walked fairly well to intake but did leash bite a bit. He was nervous for intake and would growl and air snap a bit but overall did great and warmed up with time and food!
9/18 per staff: as timid but reasonably well behaved for his intake exam. He definitely likes chewing on the leash that he was tied up with, likes to sit on it, snuggle it, etc. Very food motivated, will cooperate with most things for bologna or cream cheese. Muzzled for microchip. He seems very sweet, just not really accustomed to having to follow rules. With some training, he should do well for an adult home.
