Roosevelt is a very pretty middle aged german shepherd who came to ACCT as a stray on 9/16. Roosevelt was nervous when our officer brought her to the shelter and was a bit unsure of the leash. With some time though she allowed the officer to leash her and bring her to ACCT without any issues. The officer did note that Roosevelt was slipping on her hind legs upon pickup and had some trouble walking around. Since arriving at ACCT Roosevelt has been mellow and very calm in kennel. While outside with staff on the 17th she was friendly and allowed handling on her head and upper back. She is very handler oriented and is content laying beside you getting head scratches and eating some treats. However when touching her lower back, hips, or sides she appeared very uncomfortable and would air snap or tense up. When walking around Roosevelt would couch down and would stop at times, cross her back legs over, or would slip and lay down at times. She appeared very uncomfortable walking around for longer periods of time. Roosevelt is still pending a vet check for further information, but urgently needs to leave with a rescue partner based on the medical concerns observed so far. She urgently needs to leave with a rescue who can provide her further diagnostics and be mindful with medical handling as she can be reactive when touching her back/ hips/ hind.
9/17 per volunteer: She's a social eater and hadn't touched her food until I sat in his kennel with her. She went for a nice slow paced walk and sniff before wanting to cuddle in her kennel. She's a really sweet older lady that I hope peaks someone's interests
9/16 per staff: Dog allowed me to approach, but got nervous of leash at first. Once leashed dog stood up, but back legs kept bowing out and it would sit or lay back down. I had to tug a little on leash to get it to walk. Noticed a little limp. Dog was nervous to get on van so I had to muzzle and lift onto van. Noticed back legs were bowing and when first leashed and attempting to walk dog would sit or lay back down.
