About veronica: Veronica ACCT-A-145058 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Veronica must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, EXPEREINCED FOSTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by Friday, September 8th by 10:00 am. Should Veronica's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog. Meet Veronica! This petite little lady came to ACCT on 8/31 with her sister Betty after their owner could no longer keep them due to lack of time and space for them. Veronica's owner shared that she is playful, protective, and high energy. They also shared that she does well with cats, kids, and dogs, but can be protective and reactive to new people at first. When entering the shelter Veronica was very nervous and reactive in the lobby, but quickly warmed up to staff. Veronica has had a tough time adjusting to shelter life and while she does well outside, she has been quite reactive and nervous in kennel. Veronica can be standoffish when meeting her in kennel cowering away to the back or reacting at the kennel bars. Due to this she can be difficult to get out of kennel. Outside Veronica slowly warms up and shows her true personality! Outside Veronica has had great dog meets, has been affectionate, and shows what a good girl she is. Veronica is not thriving in the shelter environment though and is likely to become more stressed with time. Due to this she urgently needs to leave with an adopter or rescue willing to give her a cozy home environment where she can show her true personality and gain confidence. 9/4 per volunteer: Veronica is such a sweet girl who is extremely scared in the kennel area. Inside she is terrified and cowers away from people, only allowing leashing after getting plenty of treats. Outside, she's loose, wiggly, and a complete gem! You can tell her true personality comes out once she's out of the loud kennel area. She allows handling all over and even flops over for belly rubs. She had an incredibly good dog meet in the shelter and has previously lived with dogs! She is somewhat playful with toys but more interested in hanging out getting pets. 9/1 per staff: In kennel this AM Veronica is very reactive. She has a flagged tail, tense forward leaning body, hard eye contact, and is hard growling and barking. Her growling became more pronounced the longer I stood in front of the kennel. She did not redirect with treats, she made sure she was consistently making eye contact with me 9/1 per staff: I called over to her and she came up with a low wagging tail and gave me a kiss. A few moments later I called her over again and she approached me with a lowered submissive body language. She allowed me to pet her head, but she laid down and tucked her tail. Later on she laid on her back with her tail untucked and allowed me to give her belly rubs. 8/31 per staff: Veronica was a very chaotic but loose and wiggly girl with everyone she interacted with! She took her shots well, just a bit of scrambling, but would do a little submissive belly display when approached for another shot. She allowed all over handling, and was very excitable. She does have super red eyes and appears very stressed here, and did thrash quite a lot going into kennel, as well as tried to break out while we were closing the door. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
