About oliver: Oliver ACCT-A-145297 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Oliver must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by Saturday, August 26th at 10 A.M. Should Oliver's medical or behavioral status change, their urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Meet Oliver! He came to us as a stray on 08/21 after being found roaming a local park all alone. He is a large black and white boy who is suspected to be a husky mix. Oliver has had a difficult time adjusting to shelter life and has shown to be very stressed during his time in the kennel. He is in need of a loving family who can help him decompress and feel safe again. Medically Oliver came to us as a fearful male who is approximately 4 years old. He was seen on 08/21 for his extreme stress and medicated for his symptoms. Additionally Oliver has had negative dog meets since being in our care so, we would recommend a single-dog household for him. If you think you can provide Oliver the love and care he needs. Please come meet him at ACCT Philly today! Staff stated on 08/22: "Oliver was still very fearful of leashing, bearing his teeth at the leash as I lassoed him. It took many attempts to leash him due to his dodging, and then to get over to the back office due to him doing some thrashing on the way. He was very squirmy for his shots, scurrying away from us and did not do well with restraint. He never growled at me/displayed any concerning behavior but is a very stressed and dramatic boy. Staff stated on 08/19: "He was intrigued by squeaky toys but did not want to approach them. He would try to grab tennis balls but gave up very quickly. Staff stated on 08/19: "He just watched us trying to initiate play, and would flinch when we moved forward. At one point he softly barked at me. Staff stated on 08/19: "Oliver walked around the room with a low but not tucked tail, an open panting mouth, and his ears back. He would approach both of us and sniff us, and then walk away. Oliver walked around the room with an open panting mouth, his ears back, and a low but not tucked tail. He approached both of us and sniffed our legs, then walked away. A few minutes later he approached us and sniffed our lap. He allowed me to pet his head, neck, and back after this. At one point he put his front legs on the other staff's lap, and mouthed the air near her face. Sudden noises would spook him but he recovered quickly. He had no interest in treats at first, until the other staff hand fed him some high value treats. Then he ate all the other treats on the ground that we had thrown previously. He showed knowledge of sit and paw and took treats gently. His body was not tense, nor did it loosen up with handling. I sat down on the floor and called him over. He slowly approached me and sniffed my face, then gave me a kiss on my nose. Staff stated on 08/19: "with any leash pressure he would thrash. Staff stated on 08/19: "Oliver was very nervous in the kennel. His divider was already closed. He was standing at the front when staff approached. When she opened the door he ran to the back, pushing himself into a corner and screamed when she tried to leash him. He was dodging the leash and mouthing at it, and then started to bare teeth at it. Once he was leashed he thrashed initially in the kennel. Then he exited without issue. Due to his behavior and stress we would recommend an adult-only home for Oliver. Staff stated on 08/19: "Super stressed boy. Put in general behavior and no kids waiver due to intake notes and behavior on leash. Staff stated on 08/18: "panicking, tense and jumping around/rolling while attempting to intake Staff stated on 08/18: "A staff member who grabbed Oliver from his finder called for help on the walkie and I came out to him in the parking lot and took his leash. Oliver was not pleased to be walked on a leash, refusing to be led. He would thrash, put his paws up to wrap them around the leash and pull down, gator roll, and fully jump in the air and smack himself down on the concrete. He would growl at me sometimes, but never escalated towards me. I did not get him checked in due to his freaking out, and put him in a kennel. He needs a day to decompress Video: Oliver knows sit and paw: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DUs1HXMIz_M Oliver playing fetch: https://youtu.be/2LcRJww6nFU?si=y9VN9HbCx7OUoobI Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.
