About moby: Moby ACCT-A-143667 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space for incoming dogs, and length of stay. Moby must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER or ADOPTER by Thursday, August 24th at 10 A.M. Should Moby's medical or behavioral status change, their urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Meet Moby! He came to us on 07/28 after being found wrapped up in caution tape, and sadly hasn't had it easy. He is a sweet and gentle guy, and walks well on the leash. He has had dog meets that have gone poorly, and that have gone well, so would do best with an extremely slow introduction and does better when the introductions aren't face to face. You can watch more in his dog meet video below. Overall we would recommend a single -dog household for Moby due to his selective behavior. He is a sweet and gentle dog who would love a home, foster or rescue to help him find his way! Medically Moby came to us on 07/28 generally healthy as an intact male with fleas and scabs on his ears. On 07/29 he was reassessed due to observed "Discharge from eyes and nose, very thin, open scabs on ears. They also noted that Moby was "Very tolerant and sweet . They cleaned his wounds and assessed that he was healthy to be adopted! If you can provide a loving and calm home for Moby. Please come meet him today! Notes from staff: On 08/15 staff noted: "handsome big white pittie. Walks nicely on leash and checks in with the handler. Scars on his ears, When I got down on his level he leaned in for pets, after loosening up the run he began to solicit attention and even climbed in my lap for a hug! Very housetrained. Needs neutered. Some green discharge coming out of his L eye . Enjoyed back and butt scratches, not attempted ears or head but no issues putting a bandana on him. When he gets excited he can be mildly jumpy but very easily redirected and overall he's medium to low energy. Chill dog looking for a family to love On 08/03 staff noted: "When I approached his kennel, Moby was resting on his bed. He lifted his head up but didn't budge from his bed. I then showed him my leash and asked if he wanted to go for a walk. He then walked up to the door, and I easily leashed him. Moby immediately went to the bathroom after exiting the building. For most of our walk, Moby walked close to me and loved to explore all of the grass and bushes we encountered. When I first showed him that I had a treat, he seemed excited and jumped on me a couple of times but took the snack gently. He didn't jump again after that, instead remained calm when I offered him more snacks. After walking for 15-20 min, I took Moby into one of the runs. After I sat down on the bench, he sniffed around the run for a minute and then came over to me for attention. Moby laid down at my feet and let me scratch his back before rolling over for me to rub his belly. When we returned to his kennel, walked back in with no hesitation." On 08/03 staff noted: "Would be ok in a home with older children, comfort has increased just wouldn't suggest small children who would run into his face etc he was very good with them in the lobby On 07/31 staff noted: "only dog preferred home On 07/30 staff noted: "When I took Moby into the big yard, he wasn't super interested in me and sniffed the perimeter. After he went to the bathroom he came up and solicited pets, then went back to sniffing. I saw Nipsey on the other side of the fence, and tried to get Moby's attention but he was more interested in the grass. I finally went and picked up his leash and walked him over. He was pretty uninterested through the fence so we met outside of the fence. He seemed pretty relaxed when he and Nipsey weren't face to face, allowed sniffing, sniffed Nipsy, easily wandered elsewhere and wasn't fixated. When they would meet face to face he was tense, some hackles raised and tail flagging, however while you could feel a tiny growl through the leash at which point I would pull him away and we would walk back up to Nipsey and again he wouldn't care being next to him. We did this a few times and each time he cared less and less. He seems like a good dog who is a bit unsure, and sends some backwards signals sometimes. With slow intros to another dog who is calm and won't react to him growling a little, I think he'd be fine, but haven't seen the meets that didn't go well previously. On 07/30 staff noted: "Easily leashed Moby in his kennel after he walked up to the door for some treats. We went into the lobby which was very crowded, and he had loose body language, and two children asked if they could pet him. I said yes but to go slow and they stuck out their hands and walked up and sniffed them, tail wagging, and they pet his head and back and he did not tense up. One asked to give him a treat, so I gave her one and he took it very gently from her hand. On 07/30 staff noted: "Had a good dog meet this afternoon with Nipsey while out with staff. Did not like when the other dog approached him face on, but did ok with a slow intro. He may be possibly dog selective or prefer a calmer dog who matches his energy levels. Would need a very slow and supervised introduction to other dogs in a home setting " On 07/29 staff noted: "I'd prefer a home without other dogs. I want to be your one and only! On 07/29 staff noted: "Fearful and no kids waiver due to discomfort with handling. On 07/29 staff noted: "I'm housebroken! On 07/29 staff noted: "Moby was lying down asleep in his kennel bed when I approached. I dropped a treat on the floor and he woke up looking at me with soft eyes and got right up to eat the treat. I opened the door and he had a lowered wiggly body and helicopter wagging tail, and backed away from the leash onto his bed. I was able to lean in and leash him ears to snout and he exited immediately. On 07/29 staff noted: "In the play room Moby sniffed around with a neutral body and low untucked tail picking treats off the ground. He would wag when I spoke to him but lower his head away from my hand. I dropped the leash and gave him space and he mostly ignored me exploring the room, and went to the bathroom. He is very treat motivated and takes them gently. He will kind of stand there looking at you not knowing what to do with himself just waiting for more treats. When you reach towards him he lowers his body and head and tenses. I had to hold his leash in order to pet him. He allowed head pets and some of his back, but was very tense and would close his mouth and lip lick. I grabbed his leash again after giving him treats for a little while, and he allowed all over handling, but got significantly more uncomfortable with face handling.
