About billy: Billy ACCT-A-135894 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Billy must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER, or ADOPTER by Wednesday, April 19th at 10 A.M. Should Billy's medical status change, their urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Billy is a handsome 4yr neutered male who came to ACCT as a stray on 4/10. A kind citizen called Animal Protection Officers to come to Billy's rescue when they saw him being dumped in a lot. Sadly, Billy was found in very poor condition. He is underweight with pressure sores, and has wounds on his face and body -- he was covered in dried blood when he was found. Billy has quickly made new friends at the shelter and even some new dog buddies, too. When Billy first came in he was understandably very nervous and unsure of his surrounding and just needed someone to show him love and trust. He has been showing kennel reactiveness but has been good when outside on walks. He is still learning to trust but would benefit from getting out of the shelter and into a nice quiet environment to decompress and recover from his wounds and doggy cold. On 4/17 Billy was noted to be lethargic and dyspneic on walk-through. He had an Increased respiratory rate and effort. Bilateral crackles noted on auscultation. Still taking treats but not exuberant about food as he was before. The wounds on his face continue to heal well. Today he was quiet, alert and responsive but still wary of handling. Tentative infectious bronchopneumonia Billy was started on medication. On 4/14 staff noted- Very reactive in kennel this AM and began to jump on the bars growling, baring teeth, snapping and hard staring On 4/13 staff noted- When approached Billy was laying on his bed in his kennel. When he saw me he came up to his kennel door with a loose body. When I attempted to leash him he retreated. I had to do a treat scatter to be able to leash him. Exited without issue. Returned without issue. Pulls minimally on the leash but not enough to be an issue.. He was neutral and allowed all handling. When we entered the play yard I allowed Billy to do his own thing before engaging. Billy walked around with a neutral body and untucked tail. Billy is VERY treat motivated. We are trying to work on "gentle", but for the moment, even open palm isn't the best, so I would toss treats with Billy. Today he showed knowledge of "sit"! Billy allows all over handling, he never wags his tail, but he will occasionally come up and nudge your hand. Billy is very docile and starting to open up. During play he seemed to have no interest. He was Interested in toys but did not take possession. He will chase tennis balls and wags his tail and becomes very loose and wiggly when presented with them On 4/11 staff noted- Billy is tense in the kennel and will growl and lift his lip when interacting with him. On 4/11 staff noted- When approached Billy was laying on his bed in his kennel. I called to him to get his attention and he came up to his kennel door with a loose body. He was patient while I leashed him and exited without issue. Returned without issue. Billy pulls minimally on the leash but not enough to be an issue. Billy was neutral and allowed all handling. When we entered the play yard we allowed Billy to do his own thing before we engaged. Billy had a neutral body with an untuck tail, but allowed all handling. He gets a little head shy, but is very sweet. We were cautious of his head due to his wound on his forehead. He didn't show knowledge of "sit" and got a little snatchy, so open palm or tossing them would be best. On 4/11 Billy had a cage side exam. He was snarlin when approached. Billy had what appears to be dried blood coating a laceration in a butterfly across the bridge of his nose. On 4/11 Billy was bright, alert, responsive, fearful but not aggressive and friendly during exam. The skin around his mouth was red and irritated. He had dirty, pressure sores on feet, blood on face. His scrotum was red and irritated Billy is in need of rescue or a loving home that can give him the time he needs to decompress while he recovers.
