About roman: Roman ACCT-A-119493 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical and behavioral concerns. Roman must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Thursday, August 11th by 10:00am. Should Roman's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Email lifesaving@acctphilly.org if your rescue can pull.
Roman is a handsome 4 year old who was found as a stray and was hit by a car. Roman was initially very fearful in our care, understandably so, and was nervous for his medical exam. Upon examination he was found to have multiple wounds and is receiving treatment for them. He also was found to have a grade 1-2 heart murmur. The R maxillary canine is fractured with pulp exposure and the lips/muzzle are bruised and erythematous. Roman is on medicine to ease the pain, but is still sensitive to handling near his face.
While out with staff on 8/7 Roman was very energetic and eager to make friends! He met multiple staff members and was social with them, leaning in for pets. Roman is a high energy guy who would benefit from training, as he does lack in manners and can become overstimulated, becoming jumpy and mouthy. Roman does escalate in mouthiness and will also leash bite.
At times he is difficult to redirect away from the leash and will climb it, snapping near his handler's hands. Roman has attempted to bite when handling near his face. There is concern that while leash biting or mouthing his handler he may escalate or redirect out of pain due to the fractured tooth.
Confirmed placement is considered an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
