About tuxedo: Manhattan Center My name is TUXEDO. My Animal ID # is A1104744. I am a neutered male black and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old. 02/28/2017 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes: Dressed for success, and a formal outing in his, you guessed it, tuxedo, our boy was thrilled to be out for a walk and a chance to show off his housetraining skills. Sweet, friendly, handsome and all about kisses and cuddles, I loved having him in my lap for a perfect snuggle session. Tuxedo pulls on his leash, so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training, but he stole my heart with our first kiss! Posing for photos like a pro, and doing a head tilt as I made kissy sounds at him, his tail never stops wagging, and he closes his eyes with the bliss of a good cuddle. Tuxedo is ready to welcome you to his kennel, no need to dress up, jeans or sweats will do just fine. He wanted me to assure you hes not a formal dog at all, despite his name. Fun, lively and affectionate, Tuxedo is ready to begin his happily ever after by your side. Come meet him today. I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 02/25/2017 from NY 10304, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. Summary: Tuxedo became uncomfortable when his paw was handled, head flipping with his mouth open. Other then that he was social. DOG DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 2/27: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Tuxedo mostly keeps to himself while exploring the yard. He eventually approaches and greets the female helper dog, and briefly offers play bows to solicit from her. He loses interest and wanders away when she does not reciprocate. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 2/26/17 During his initial medical exam, Tuxedo was social and allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Tuxedo so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) No young children (under 5): Due to Tuxedos discomfort with having his paws handled, we feel that a home without young children would be most beneficial at this time. Potential challenges: Handling/touch sensitivity (Tuxedo head flipped with his mouth open when his paw was handled. It is important to always go slow and give Tuxedo the option to walk away from any social interaction. Tuxedo should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. Positive reinforcement, force free training is recommended.) 02/27/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR 2/27: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Tuxedo mostly keeps to himself while exploring the yard.
