About gucci: GUCCI A1062188 A volunteer writes: Gucci joined us along with his housemate Lexi, a Poodle/Shih Tzu mix, when their owner became too ill to care for them. I love that Guccis best friend was a tiny dog, as hes a big boy and as sweet and gentle as can be. We are told he loved playing with little Lexi, enjoys playing with toys and likes to play fetch, chase and tug. We are also told hes housetrained and never has accidents, knows sit, watch and let go. Gucci was easy to leash in his kennel and has fabulous leash manners; hes such a pleasure to walk. Hes been well fed and in his shiny gray coat is quite the dashing young man! Wagging his tail at everyone we pass, he ignores other dogs during our walk, but in the back yard runs to the fence to greet those that pass by. Gucci showed off his sit, taking his reward treat more gently than any other dog I have ever met. He has the softest mouth ever! Joining me on the bench for some hugs, his tail wagged so hard he knocked my phone out of my hand I was not prepared for that sweet tail wag! He plays, he hugs, he greets others politely and his best friend was a dog the size of his head! Hes an awesome gentle giant making the best of his new situation and surely missing his friends, both human and dog. Lets get him home with new BFFs today! **RETURNED 12/5/16** NEUTERED MALE, BLUE / WHITE, AMERICAN STAFF MIX, 5 yrs OWNER SURRENDER EVALUATE, HOLD RELEASED Reason ALLERGIES Intake condition EXAM REQ Intake Date 12/05/2016, From NY 10454, Due Out Date 12/05/2016, I came in with Group/Litter #K16-083466. DECEMBER 2016 A volunteer writes: Looking for some super size love? Our gentle giant, Gucci, is too! I remember Gucci from his first stay with us and am sad to see him back with his housemate Max due to someone in the family developing allergies. Gucci is still his fun loving, affectionate, playful self, happy to make new friends, show off his nice leash manners, enjoy some treats and play with a ball. We are told that Gucci played nicely with dogs he lived with and those he knew of friends, is friendly to strangers, prefers that you don?t touch his food bowl, is housetrained, well behaved when left home alone, and his favorite activities are playing with his small dog housemate, and cuddling while watching TV with his family. I wonder what his favorite TV shows are? Animal Planet perhaps? Gucci and I had a great walk to the park where we stopped for some photos Gucci posing like a pro. He?s been beautifully cared for and it shows. Off leash he does some playful jumping, played keep away with the tennis ball but I could put my hand on it while in his mouth, stopped to greet a dog walking past us, and just had fun. Hes super sized with a super size heart, a great smile, sparkling eyes and a loving personality and is ready to find a new family to love. PROFILE : SOCIALIZATION Gucci is friendly with strangers. He lived with a medium male and a small female dog and was relaxed and playful with them. They played gently-exuberantly. He barked at and avoided strange dogs outside but was friendly and playful with familiar dogs of family, friends, neighbors, etc. Gucci has not bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Gucci does not mind storms. He is tense and stares while someone takes his bowl of food from him; they take it slowly while they talk to him. He does not mind when someone takes his treat/toy, moves him off furniture, bathes him, brushes him, or trims his nails. He struggles when restrained. He?s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Guccis family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, excitable, and medium energy. They love that hes well behaved and gets along well with the small dog. His favorite activities include playing and running around with the small dog and cuddling and watching TV with his family. Gucci follows his family. He plays fetch, chase, and tug and likes stuffed and squeaky toys. He lived inside and went outside twice daily and for walks twice weekly. He does not pull on the leash. He sleeps on a dog bed and ate dry and wet Beneful foods twice daily. Hes housetrained and does not have accidents. Hes well behaved while home alone and sits or lets go when asked. INTAKE Gucci usually had a loose wiggly body and wagging tail. He jumped up and leaned into me. He didn?t react while I scanned him (+). He stopped wiggling but remained soft while I collared him. He growled while we held Max for vaccines. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) No children (under 13) Single pet home (While Gucci lived successfully with other dogs in his home, he has displayed discomfort while greeting dogs in the care center. It cannot be said for certain how Guccis behaviors in our care will translate into a home, however; future caretakers of Gucci should proceed with caution before attempting to introduce Gucci to unfamiliar dogs) Recommend no dog parks (see playgroup) Potential challenges: Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as Leave it, Sit/Stay, Down are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force free, reward based training is recommended.) Resource guarding (See known history; Gucci may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address any guarding behavior that may present in a home environment. In addition, we recommend teaching Gucci Drop It and trade up games.)
