About leo: Adopt/Rescue - SPACE - Needs placement by 3/23 at 11 a.m. A1242867 Leo 8 years old Intact male (DAS will neuter) 76 lbs Heartworm positive (high pos) Owner surrender - family illness Bio: Leo is anxious and unsure here in the shelter and would benefit from a quiet, patient, and loving home willing to give him the time and space to warm up. Previous owner notes: escape artist, destructive, lives outdoors only, resource guards food and toys, aggressive with dogs and cats Shelter Observations 3/16 (medical): Pt is growling in kennel, unable to get out. 3/18: deep growling, tail tucked, ears down and keeping to back of kennel. 3/18: When I approached the kennel door to visit with Leo he moved to the other side of the kennel and began growling. Would not respond to being called over and continued to growl. Tried letting the divider down. He barked and snapped at the leash initially but I was able to ease into putting it onto him. He walked to the yard without further issue. After a while of being in the yard he started to feel more comfortable around the handlers. Would approach us, a bit wary of being interacted with, but showed interest in people. Allowed some petting. Seemed hesitant of his back area being touched, gave a light growl. 3/18: allowed me to enter kennel shy tail held low did allow pets Medical notes: 3/18: Pet has been prescribed Doxycycline for 14 days as part of our new heartworm therapy. Pet is to go home with remaining Doxycycline prescribed. RX: Doxycycline 100mg Tabs ? 10mg/kg(Round down) BID x 14 days. 3/18: Has small sore on L rear thigh, slightly red, does not appear to be swollen or irritated.
