He was standing in the middle of the kennel with wide eyes, closed mouth and a tense body as the runner approached. He retreated to the rear as the runner kneeled at the gate, pressing his body against the wall. He avoided eye contact and began to stress pant. The runner opened the gate and reassured him. He faced away from the runner and would not approach. He began to pace the back wall as the leash was placed near him. The runner was able to place the leash over his head without resistance. He required coaxing to exit his and eventually came out slowly with a low body. He was timid as he walked on leash, just behind the runner. He was hesitant entering the pen and kept at the end of leash, wary of the runner. He pressed his body against the side wall while avoiding eye contact and flinched as the collar touched his neck. He then paced around slowly, trying to keep distance from the runner. After a few minutes of reassuring, he tolerated the collar being clasped around his neck with concerned eyes and a low head as he leaned away. He did not approach the play yard fence to greet any dogs in the yard. He entered the yard and was approached by several dogs. He was tense but tolerated them sniffing his body, slowly turning to briefly sniff each in return. He was considerably more tense when the others lingered near his face. He spent the next few minutes calmly roaming the yard, keeping to himself. He was not comfortable with playful dogs coming up to him although he was tolerant, not offering any warnings. He began to relax slightly as he roamed and approached a handler, briefly sniffing his hand and licking it. As time passed, he started to relax further, approaching other calm dogs to greet them. He was relaxed with soft eyes and a neutral tail. He remained wary of the handlers and would not approach. He also kept his distance from playful dogs but continued approaching calm dogs. He did not display any play style while in the yard. He needs confidence building and further socialization. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REQ), CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
He was wary of the handler as he walked into the catch pen, keeping his distance with concerned eyes. The handler kneeled and coaxed him to approach. He came up slowly with concerned eyes and sat on the bench next to the handler. He was initially tense as the handler rubbed the top of his head but began to relax with soft eyes, leaning against him. He was tense but tolerated his ears being rubbed. As the handler stopped touching him he relaxed and then leaned his body against the handler. He closed his mouth with concerned eyes and slowly moved his head away as the handler went to look at his teeth. He was loose as the handler rubbed his back and briefly held his tail. He was tense with a closed mouth as the handler lifted his rear paws. He was not as comfortable with his front paws being held as he closed his mouth and side-eyed the handler. He did like to have the side of his neck rubbed and relaxed with that contact. He walked back to his kennel easily but remained wary of doorways and would hesitate, requiring coaxing. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REQ), CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY
