About nylon: My name is NYLON and I'm approximately 7 years and 2 months old male belg malinois. I have been at the Palmdale Animal Care Center since January 3, 2025.

Behavior 4 Overall body posture: Upright/stiff/tense Ears: Flattened back Eyes: Whale eye Mouth: Closed Vocalizing: Growling

Fear-Anxiety-Stress level observed at intake: (5) High FAS

He was growling with wide eyes and a tense body as the runner approached. The runner opened the gate and he retreatd to the rear of the kennel while growling. The runner presented the leash and asked stated want to go for a walk? Nylon relaxed slightly but remained wary of the leash, dodging it a few times before it could be placed over his head. He relaxed once on leash and walked well, next to the runner on the way to the catch pen. He was wary entering the pen, but leaned against the handler for affection as the collar was clasped around his neck. He stopped short of the play yard fence and sniffed in the other dog direction with concerned eyes and alert ears. He was brought into the yard on a long loose leash. He was tense and had a forward posture with the other dogs who came up to greet him. He growled at one handler as she kneeled near him as he walked by. He anxiously paced the yard for a few minutes. He was tolerant of a female pit bull who came up to greet him but was not comfortable. A male shepherd came up and lingered in his face and he growled, warning the shepherd for space. He continued to tolerate female dogs coming up to him. He approached a handler and allowed him to rub his face and back. After a few minutes the same handler came up to him. Nylon focused on him, growled and then took a few steps towards the handler with focused eyes. The handler had to take a few steps back to create space. He was removed from the yard at this time. While in the pen, Nylon growled with focused eyes at the handler once again. The handler spent a few moments reassuring him before placing the loop leash on him and taking him back to his kennel without further incident.

RESCUE ONLY, FEMALES ONLY (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY

He was in the play yard with other dogs prior to this handling assessment. He was wary of the handler as he walked into the pen. He was given a few moments to acclimate, and the handler kneeled next to him. He had soft eyes and a neutral body as the handler looked into his ears and viewed his teeth. He was slightly tense as the handler ran his hand down his back. As the handler held his tail, Nylon sat down with wide eyes and tense body as he side-eyed the runner. He side-eyed and pulled his rear paws away from the handler when he went to pick them up. He was not comfortable with his front paws being held as he pressed them into the ground with force, not allowing them to be picked up. The assessment was concluded, and he was returned to his kennel without issue.
