About rogue: Rogue ACCT-A-21972 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Rogue must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by MONDAY, OCTOBER 28TH at 10AM. Should Rogue's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Meet Rogue! Rogue arrived as an owner surrender on 10/7 when his owner of one year was unable to care for him any longer. We found out that he had been with us in 2017 and attempted to contact his previous adopter, but were unable to get in touch with them. This senior pup is eager to greet everyone with a wagging tail, but has been very stressed in the shelter environment. Rogue is a gentle guy who just needs a bit of guidance to help him relax and enjoy his surroundings. If you've got a chill adult only home and are ready to help Rogue find his calm, he'd love to meet you! Rogue has shown some dog reactivity in the shelter, so he is looking to be your one and only! Due to his length of stay at the shelter, Rogue is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.
BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 10/15: Dog aggressive. Friendly/aloof.
10/8 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Rogue was at the door with soft eyes and a wagging tail. He was easy to leash and came right out.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally to moderately
HANDLING:
Rogue came out in the yard, panting excessively and wagging his tail at all the handlers. He greeted everyone with a smile and soft eyes. Once he saw a dog he darted across the yard and put his entire body up on the gate and fixated on the area even after the dog left, barking, panting, and pulling towards the area. The handler tried to help him calm down and distract him but he continued to bark and fixate on the gate. He allowed all handling throughout it all but was very stressed.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
No interest
Per staff 10/7: Very stressed in kennel - drooling, panting excessively, drooling, barking at the front.
Per his owner surrender notes, they had Rogue for a year and he is completely housetrained and working on his crate training. He also knows sit, paw, lay, and speak. He's a high energy pup who likes toys, is good with strangers and children, and loves to be with people. They never had him around cats and told us that he tries to go up to other dogs when he sees them.
MEDICAL:
On 10/12, Rogue was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and prescribed medication which he is scheduled to be on until 10/25.
On 10/9, Rogue was prescribed some medication for his stress, and on 10/11 another medication was added. He completed those medications on 10/15 and 10/17.
Per his intake exam on 10/7, Rogue had red eyes due to stress, but his eyes and ears were otherwise clean. He had some crusting on his nose and yellow staining on his teeth. He was bright, alert, and responsive, but "was barking and getting over stimulated pretty quick.
Rogue was neutered when he was at the shelter in 2017.
