About bruiser: Bruiser ACCT-A-172969 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due behavioral concerns. Bruiser must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH at 10 A.M. Should Bruiser's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Bruiser ACCT-A-172969 is a 2-year-old male who was brought in by police as a stray on 8/31. He may have lived on the block where he was found tied up. Officers stated he bit the control pole prior to APOs arriving, he did sustain a small injury and was bleeding by his back left tooth. He's a smaller pup, weighing 32 pounds, but does have some behavior concerns noted since his arrival. Bruiser will need a home with no kids or cats, but is open to meeting other dogs. Due to his behavior concerns noted below, including overarousal, Bruiser is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter. BEHAVIOR: 9/1 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Bruiser was curled up, cocked his head up with wide eyes and ran up to the handler, raised hackles, looked at the leash and ran away, he kept trying to leave and then stood there with wide eyes, and a tense body, tried to shake off leash once lasso'd and came right out once secured. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: Bruiser came into the office very wiggly, goofy, jumpy, and sporadic. He kept jumping up on the handler and mouthing in the air, kind of manic when he continues to be pet. He is a very wild and crazy boy that loves to play and jump all over like a bunny. His movements are very sporadic and all over. When he doesn't get treats he gets vocal and mouthy. If you touch him too much he gets overstimulated and gets nippy, if you play with him too much he gets nippy and vocal, and if you are too much over him, he gets nippy. He allowed all handling but on his time and will get very overwhelmed. PLAY Escalated with play - went for the handlers stomach growling, hard eye contact, and lunging TOYS: snappy with toys but loses interest quickly COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Blue MEDICAL: On 9/3, Bruiser was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or a "doggy cold". He was started on a course of doxycycline and his PCR test is pending to see what type of upper respiratory infection he has. Per an intake exam on 8/31: Bruiser was noted to have live fleas but was otherwise bright, alert, responsive and in good general health.
