About moby: Moby ACCT-A-171563 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Moby must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by Tuesday August 20th at 10 A.M. Should Moby's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Moby was found outside of someone's apartment building limping on his hind legs and unable to run. The finder told us that he had been rehomed when a resident moved out and could not have pets in their new home, but could not give us any further information about potential owners. Moby is extremely nervous about being at the shelter and is tense and avoids interaction. Due to Moby's fear, he is timestamped and looking for placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter where he can decompress in a calmer environment. BEHAVIOR: Per staff 8/18: Removed Moby from kennel today for the photoshoot. He was very nervous and curled up on his bed. He growled as I leashed him but exited without issue. In the room Moby was very nervous and avoidant of all handlers and gave lots of whale eye. He did not want to interact with any of us and anytime someone got close to him he would tense and give whale eye and then move away. He remains very stressed and fearful in our care. Per staff 8/17: when Aca went to take for a walk, Moby was scared he had a tucked tail and worried eyes. Was able to clip off and put back into kennel. Did not want to stress him more. Small steps. Per staff 8/15: Limited intake done in behavior office Per staff 8/15: Leaving on evaluate for medical pending vet check 8/15 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray, APO pickup KENNEL PRESENTATION: Moby was very fearful in the kennel when approaching. He was laying on his bed facing the backside. The handler lowered the divider preemptively due to his previously noted fear. When the handler called him he gave some whale eye but remained on his bed. He was avoidant of eye contact. He would glance away, then look with hard eyes, and then look away again. He growled with lasso attempts but after a few tries the handler was able to leash him. Once leashed he exited without issue. LEASH SKILLS: Pulled Moderately, housebroken HANDLING: In the room Moby had a tense hunched body, wide eyes, and was lip licking frequently. He appeared very nervous and was very stressed out, pulling to exits frequently and just wanting to exit the room. He did allow light handling in the room on his back and head but remained very anxious. He leaned in slightly to some neck scratches though once comfortable. He was sensitive to handling on his hind and hips and would lip lick and tense up slightly. He remained very focused on exits and wanting to get out of the shelter. PLAY: No interest TOYS: No interest COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Blue Per staff 8/15: Unable to removed dog from kennel very fearful Per staff 8/14: When trying to remove Moby from kennel he growled, bared teeth, and hard stared when I reached in with the leash. Will attempt again to get him out tomorrow, in the mean time putting up Behavior/Management Only sign. MEDICAL: On 8/15, Moby's eyes, ears, and notes were noted to be clear. He had moderate staining on his teeth and some tartar. His fur had patchy areas of thinning hair. They noted some abnormal gait on hind legs, uncertain if it is the hips or stifles. He was bright, alert, and responsive, although anxious, but he allowed handling and his vaccines and microchip. Moby appears to have some back pain which may be chronic. Further notes pending.
