Should Sonya's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Meet Sonya! This 4 year old gal, was picked up by an animal control officer on 6/19 as a found stray. During the ride to the shelter they described her as "so sweet and walks well on leash.. During her check-in, she was noted to be 44lbs, friendly, and appeared to be in good health. On 6/27, she was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and placed on antibiotics. We performed a PCR test on her and found her to be positive for Pneumovirus. She was then moved into ISO and a retest was done on 7/5 in which she came back negative! This sweet gal is ready to find her new fur-ever home. Sonya would do best in a home without children due to her fearfulness shown in the shelter. She enjoys meeting new dogs and has had several good meets with other dogs. This gal has come out of her shell since her first day and loves to play with toys! She even knows fetch! Sonya is good on the leash and pulls minimally on walks. She absolutely loves pets and zoomies. NOTES: On 7/10 per volunteer: Sonya was initially fearful in the shelter but she's since gotten used to kennel life and is now a happy and social girl. Sonya loves to play, the first thing she does when she gets to the run is grab a toy. Sonya likes playing tug but will drop the toy eventually. She knows fetch. Sonya takes treats gently and does a very nice sit. She is loose with all handling and especially enjoys butt scratches. Very good girl! On 6/28 per staff: Sonya went outside for activity time today. In the kennel, Sonya was at the front of the kennel, sitting down with scared eyes. She lets you easily loop the leash over her and waits patiently. Sonya pulls minimally on the leash and walked outside perfectly. As soon as she walked into the gate and I closed the door she flinched back; seeming to still be nervous of sudden movements. She did open up to a stuffed animal, playing some more and having cute zoomies. Sonya is very loving and pushes her entire body into you sometimes even falling backwards onto you. She loves pets and just needs more time to warm up to her surroundings. Per volunteer on 6/23/24: Sonya was easily leashed and walked politely outside. She sat with me for pets and sniffed around briefly. She walked calmly back to her kennel with no problems. She's so sweet! Loves to lean in for pets. On 6/22 per staff: Sonya came out for activity time today. In the kennel, Sonya was at the front with scared eyes and a tucked tail. When I opened the kennel door she began pacing back and forth. I put my leash out so she could sniff it and she did a slight jump back and gave back up slowly. She sniffed the leash and let me put it over her head easily. Once in the eval room Sonya stuck by my side for a while before wandering off. I called her over and she came with a tucked tail and lowered body. Sonya allowed me to give her some pets and once I stopped she rubbed her head against me for more. I touched Sonya's side and she quickly ducked down and initiated play with me. Sonya had some cute play bows and zoomies when I was giving her some pets. We played around with each other, almost like tag around the room. Sonya solicited for more love and trust fell backwards into my legs, showing her belly. When I tried touching her belly she put her paw in my hand and kept it there while my other hand rubbed her tummy. After a couple belly rubs she jumped back up and gave some more play bows and zoomies-- wagging her tail and giving soft eyes. On 6/20 per staff: Sonya was nervous in the kennel and had a lowered body, wide soft eyes, and a tucked tail. She came forward but then backed away again. I spoke to her softly and she came to the front again and allowed me to slip the leash over her head. No issues returning to the kennel. When walking, she pulls minimally on the leash. In the room Sonya was timid but sweet. She is a shy girl and definitely needs a slower approach, but warmed up quickly. I sat down on the bench and after sniffing around she came back over to me allowing light handling. She would gaze with soft but nervous eyes, but stayed near me if I stopped petting her. As she got comfortable she would give little wags and lean in as I talked to her and gave small spurts of pets. When a female staff member entered Sonya was VERY wiggly and ran up to them play bowing, mouthing, and jumping on them for attention but then ran to get her ball and began to growl at the staff member while holding the ball in her mouth and was stiff towards them after. Met 3 other staff members and did not display this behavior towards them and greeted them nervously, but tolerant. As time went on Sonya seemed more and more conflicted and would alternate between hard lingering eye contact and then leaning in for pets or walking up to multiple handlers. She seems a bit unsure at this time and needs a slow approach and someone mindful of her body language. She has little spurts of zoomies once she is comfortable. Loves toys and was so funny with them! She will run around with them and prefers to play by herself. Did trades without issue.
