About rollo: Rollo ACCT-A-145559 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and no space for incoming dogs. Rollo must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER OR RESCUE PARTNER by WEDNESDAY, September 20th, 2023 at 10 A.M. Should Rollo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Rollo is a middle aged pit/lab mix whose owner had to make the difficult decision to surrender him and his brother to the shelter on August 21st, 2023. His owner had Rollo and his siblings since they were puppies. He shared that Rollo is a "great house pet, loves all people and is a really good dog. Rollo's owner went on to say he is not a fan of dogs because of his past when he was attacked several times by another dog. His previous owner shared that he lived well with a 1.5 year old in the home and that he loves kids as his owner had 15 grandchildren! Prior to arriving at the shelter, Rollo and his brother had never been apart, they slept curled up together, and would eat from the same bowl. Rollo is described as being high energy and playful in a home environment. To put it simply, Rollo is a family dog. He has never known what it was like to NOT have a family. From living happily in a home, to being in a kennel most days; this is something that he has never been used to. Rollo is looking forward to spending his days again on a comfy couch filled with fluffy blankets and surrounded by those who can give endless love (and tennis balls!). Rollo is hoping his time here at the shelter of being overlooked is coming to an end, now and forever! Read some of Rollo's notes here: Per staff on 9/17/23: Rollo was very easy to get out of kennel, and did not pull on the leash! In the eval room he had tons of fun with the tennis ball. He found a lick mat of peanut butter and displayed some low level guarding (growled when I went to pick up his leash). When I tried testing him for resource guarding with a long lasting chew, he did not display any. Peanut butter may be very high value for him. Per staff on 9/14/23: I took Rollo outside for some one on one time. This was my first time interacting with Rollo. He does pull quite a bit on the leash, but it is manageable! He went to the bathroom (peed and pooped) immediately once we got outside. Rollo went to the bathroom multiple times, clearly showing that he had been waiting to go out so he could use the bathroom. We went into a run where he explored and used the restroom a few times. After a few minutes Rollo approached me. I gave him some butt scratches which he absolutely loved! Butt scratches are the key to this pups heart! After that, we became best buds. He put his two paws on my lap and gave some slobbery doggie kisses. Afterwards, he went back to roaming around and picked up a tennis ball. He rested right by my feet and chewed away at the tennis ball. Moments later, two dogs walked by and he greeted them the through the fence. His hackles were raised and he seemed curious of the other dogs as he was whining. The longer the dogs stood by the fence with their handlers; the more frustrated Rollo got. I politely asked for them to move as I could tell he was becoming agitated. Once we exited the run, we visited the welcome center dogs where he sniffed each of them through the fence. The fence meets were kept very brief. He did not seem to care for the dog in the middle and paid her no mind! Per staff on 9/7/23: Rollo was very easy to leash and remove from his kennel. He pulls moderately on leash. In the eval room he was very gentle and affectionate. He is a big fan of tennis balls, but does not resource guard. I would do treat or toy trades though, as when I reached for the toy he would freeze and whale eye me. Per staff on 8/23/23: Rollo is also very housebroken and used the bathroom for a while in the play yard. He came up to me soliciting attention with a loose body, soft eyes, and mid level wag and allowed all over handling. He leans in for pets and loves butt scratches just like his brother. Rollo was not nearly as stressed as his brother and was content being outside by himself, happily exploring the yard and doing his own thing. He would come when I called him and then go off sniffing again. He loves treats and takes them gently. Volunteers have shared that he gives no issues exiting or returning to the kennel, he has not shown mouthiness or jumpiness while in our care.
