If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Meet Big Dawg! This handsome pup came to us for the first time on 03/27/22 as a stray. After two months in our care at ACCT Philly, Big Dawg was finally adopted. Unfortunately for Big Dawg his journey with us did not end there because on 09/05/23 he came back to us when he was found roaming the streets all alone. Big Dawg has been very overwhelmed since being here and has shown signs of stress and over arousal in the kennel such as excessive spinning, whale eyes, lip licking and other behaviors noted below. Due to his high stress levels, he would benefit from a calm home with an experienced owner who can help him decompress. Big Dawg has been described in the past as a "big lovebug who is very affectionate and loves to give kisses!. Big Dawg has also had many positive dog interactions since being in our care so, if you are adding this pup to your pack we would recommend a slow introduction. Overall this fellow is looking for a place to settle down and finally relax. This sweet boy is ready for his forever home and simply wants to feel safe and loved again. If you feel as though you have room in your heart for this pup, please come meet him today! Medically when Big Dawg came here in 2022, he was seen by staff due to a persistent URI, he was medicated for his symptoms and eventually improved. However during this time he was also seen for extreme kennel stress which also was medically managed during his visit. On 09/05/2023, Big Dawg was seen again by staff and they assessed he was healthy. Staff stated: "Friendly but shy appears healthy. On 09/07/2023 he was rechecked due to his noted behavior. Staff said: "This dog is experiencing severe kennel stress. Big Dawg was medicated for his symptoms but, overall he will do best with an owner who can manage his care needs on an individual basis. He also will do best in a home with a patient family who will give him time to open up. Staff noted on 09/7: "Very aroused + spinning in kennel. When brought back it was noted to growl at children due to overstimulation. Big Dawg was barking on the opposite side of the kennel. the handler called him over and he slowly submissive crawled over to the handler. He saw the leash and gave a fast wag allowing the handler to easily leash him. exiting easily. No issues returning. Housebroken. Big Dawg was very stressed in the room. He was panting with very wide eyes . He wandered around and would slowly approach us with low wags, low to the ground body, soft eyes, and would appease lick a lot. He was very submissive and nervous of sudden movements. He would wag though when petting him and curl up next to us. He showed interest in treats and would take them nicely when offered as well. Would get nervous and pancake + lip lick, Submissive roll over Staff noted on 09/7: "observed circling and continuously chasing tail in kennel, additionally he was excessively panting Staff noted on 09/7: "experienced fosters due to levels of stress + reactivity at this point Staff noted on 09/7: "When walking down Big Dawgs row he was obsessively spinning in circles and barking frantically. We called him over and tried to redirect his attention with treats. He slowly walked to the front with a low head and then charged the bars growling, snapping, and maintaining hard eye contact. He would not redirect for treats and continued to snap and react. Later on when walking by he was obsessively spinning and barking again. Notes from Big Dawgs last visit in 2022: 05/16/2022: "He had 2 meets today with different female dogs and did awesome. He's so cute and petite and not at all a big dog 05/16/2022: "Presented in front of the kennel with all 4 paws on the ground, easy to leash and return to the kennel. No issues walking through. Does pull, but he's small so it's manageable, would benefit from using a harness. Allowed handling all over, very affectionate. 04/05/2022: " not a big dog at all! Petite actually. Handsome. Dog reactive. Very affectionate - kisses on my face! Very sick at photo shoot with URI 04/02/2022: " I took BIg Dawg out for activity time due to how stressed he appeared in the Kennel. While out it took him to the room where he did not show much interest in toys, he would take possession of it for a second then quickly release it. He showed more interest in seeking attention from handlers curling up next too myself for pets. " 03/27/2022: "He had a loose body in the kennel and allowed us to easily leash and remove him with no issues. Housebroken. In the room Dawg was loose in his body language, had a wagging tail, and was social with both handlers. He leaned in for pets and would wag more when speaking to him. He would take treats gently and showed knowledge of sit.
