About hippo: Hello, my name is Hippo. My animal id is #175315. I am a desexed male brown dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 months 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 6/24/2023.
Hippo is in need of emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. While Hippo is highly social with staff and caretakers, he is deteriorating behaviorally. When removed from his kennel, Hippo luges, hard barks, and growls as he passes other dogs. Hippo has bitten another dog's leg through the kennel but the bite did not break skin. There is also concern about redirection onto handlers. Medically, Hippo is emaciated but is slowly gaining weight.
