About max: TIMESTAMPED FOR SATURDAY 5/13 10 in pledges for rescue that pulls ** Max ACCT-A-135884 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Max must have confirmed placement with an EXPERIENCED ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by Saturday, May 13th by 10:00 am. Should Max's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Please email lifesaving@acctphilly.org if your rescue can pull or if you can foster through rescue. Acct is open from 10am-6pm daily for walk up adoptions. Max is a very handsome 2 year old pup who came to ACCT on the 6th after his family could no longer keep him. The family brought him in due to fear of his size. The owner expressed he hasn't shown any concerning behaviors, but just isn't comfortable having a dog his size in the home. According to the owner Max would spent a majority of his time in the backyard and then would be brought inside at night in his crate. Since being in the shelter Max has been understandably nervous and stressed in the shelter. While out with staff on the 6th, "At first Max was pretty tense with handling and would flinch despite wanting to be very close by. He was very interested in sniffing my face and did lick me. Over time he got a lot more comfortable around me and allowed all over handling. He would wag his tail and give me kisses, and follow me around the room. I moved to the bench and we sat next to each other for a while. He would lean his head on me, put his paws on my lap, give me kisses and wag his tail. He is super affectionate. He loves treats and takes them gently. Max has also been noted to do better with women vs men in the shelter environment and takes longer to warm up around men. Max has been gaining more confidence, but is now becoming very stressed out in shelter and urgently needs to leave and go to a quiet environment where he can decompress. On the 10th staff noted "He pulled moderately on the way to the eval room. Before I even began petting him he was extremely aroused in the room, climbing behind my back as I sat on the bench and then began humping me. I got up so he could not be on my level and he continued to hump me and grip me to try to knock me down. He calms down easily when I would pet his head slowly but when I stopped he immediately began doing the same thing. He clearly is extremely stressed and does not know how to productively expel his energy. He only started leash biting when we left the eval room and then another dog was close by so we went back. He was immediately frustrated and began to leash bite, climb the leash, mount me, and try to mouth and drag me down. He started up again when returning to kennel and was growling along with climbing the leash.
