About mona: Mona ACCT-A-56555 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Mona must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by Friday, April 14th by 10:00 am. Should Mona's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Mona arrived on March 18th when her family surrendered her after 8 years as they were moving. They shared that Mona loves cuddles, playing and running around. Mona would need to be in a home where she is an only child; no other animals or actual children. She is described as being high energy and strong on the leash. Mona's favorite items include bones, bacon and rubber toys. Due to signs of possible guarding, Mona would do well in a home where someone understands that Mona likes her high value items to herself and not to be touched (or to be pet when she has those items). Her behavioral assessment on March 21st revealed that "Mona was loose in kennel and easy to leash. No issues returning to kennel". Her assessor went on to say "Mona was loose in the room with all handlers and would lean in for pets. She had a wagging tail and would say hi to multiple handlers in the room. She showed knowledge of Sit as well and took treats gently when offered. If she were chewing treats on the ground she would tense up at times if you approached or touched her". Mona was VERY into toys, and could be quite snatchy. She would gather the toys, shake them in her mouthy and then chew them and guard. She would growl and fixate if you approached. She would trade for treats at a distance but would then try to get back to the toy again. 4/6 per staff: when attempting a dog meet for Mona she was very fixated on the other dog and displaying conflicted signals. She did okay at a distance but when doing a face meet began to mount the other dog and escalate. A single dog home is recommended based on her behavior in care and guarding history. 3/27 per volunteer: She is such a sweet and affectionate girl. She hopped her front paws on my lap and enjoyed being pet and scratched all over. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
