About athena: I am a female white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 3/13/2023.

Athena is on emergency placement for behavioral reasons. She displays a high level of dog reactivity and continues to lunge, growl, or snap toward them even when walking by their kennels. Athena is social and affectionate with humans. Medically, she is recovering from CIRDC.

Here's what my friends at ACC say:

About me: Athena arrived to our care centers as a stray, so her history remains a mystery. As we've gotten to know Athena, we have learned that she appears to enjoy the company of humans, as she is affectionate and social. Athena does not appear comfortable in the vicinity of other dogs and has displayed increasing levels of stress while living in a shelter environment where many other dogs are present.

Potential challenges: Athena displays reactivity toward other dogs on leash, and will pull toward them and bark. While walking past dogs' kennels in the shelter, she has been observed to also pull toward them, bark, and growl or snap towards them. These behaviors have also caused concern for overall safety and stress levels for Athena while living in a shelter environment. Though highly social with her human friends, Athena would benefit from positive reinforcement training to help her learn to channel her excitement around humans, including jumping up to say 'hello', and playing tug with her leash.

My ideal home is: An experienced, adult-only home with no other dogs would be ideal for Athena.
