About nena: Nena ACCT-A-121679 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. She must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER or ADOPTER by Wednesday, September 28th at 10:00 a.m. Should Nena's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Our sweet, 52 lb Nena began her stay with ACCT after she was found tied up and abandoned on August 28th. One of our Animal Protection Officers responded to the call and safely brought her to the shelter. She was very fearful upon arrival, but once she warmed up and realized she was in good hands, she "behaved wonderfully for her intake exam and tolerated all handling. Dog is very wiggly and submissive She had a behavior evaluation on August 30th and "When approached Nena was sleeping on her bed. I called gently to her and she came over to her kennel door and took treats gently. When I opened up the door and tried to leash her at first she curled away from me. I then spoke gently to her again and she perked up and I was able to leash her and she exited without issue. She was noted to be a little jumpy, but just "wants to hold onto you and just have you pet her. She also can get a little snatchy with toys and will try to take toys out of your hand. Due to this, we believe she would do best in a home with older children. "Nena is very social and just melts into you when you are petting her, but if you are standing up she does get jumpy to get you to pet her. She will put her paws around your waist or on your stomach/chest so she can try to be as close as possible to you. Nena has also spent a plethora of time with volunteers and staff during her shelter stay and was described by adoptions staff on 9/5 as, "sweet, playful and full of energy. Nena also pulls while on the leash. She knows sit. A volunteer described her on 9/11 as, "I removed this no longer shy girl's go slow sign! She was very eager to come out and explore last night. She is also very strong and pulls hard on the leash. Nena is a very friendly and excitable dog who is in urgent need of placement with a foster, adopter, or rescue! Due to her behaviors in the shelter, we believe she would do best in an adult-only home or a home with older children. She has also had positive dog meets while in the shelter and would love to meet any resident dogs before going home with you.
